Boilers generally demonstrate great durability, boasting a lifespan of around 10-20 years with proper maintenance. We recommend a boiler replacement when consistent issues arise and the repair expenses outweigh the cost of a new unit.
Given the high efficiency of modern boilers, opting for a replacement becomes not just a practical choice but also a potential strategy for long-term cost savings.
If you're unsure whether to repair or replace your boiler, talk to our team and we'll help advise the best course of action!
When your boiler frequently requires expensive repairs, it typically becomes more economical and efficient to replace it with a new, modern model.
At PDF Gas and Heating, we pride ourselves on providing transparent customer service: if we can repair a boiler, we will! We will not give you the hard sell on a new but unnecessary boiler.
Give us a call to discuss your boiler and to arrange a call out. Our engineers will thoroughly discuss your options and advise you on whether a replacement would be more advantageous for your central heating system.
When installed by a Worcester Bosch accredited installer (like us, here, at PDF Gas and Heating) a new Worcester Bosch gas boiler can have up to a 12 year guarantee (vs the standard guarantee starting from 5 years). And a new Worcester Bosch oil boiler can have up to a 7 year guarantee (vs the standard guarantee starting from 2 years). However, an annual service is required to maintain that guarantee.
You can find out more about Worcester Bosch guarantees here or alternatively contact us and we can talk you through it.
The answer to this comes down to your water consumption.
For most properties, a combi boiler is preferable as you are not heating and storing vast quantities of hot water you will never need. Keeping a massive but unnecessary water cylinder full of hot water can be a waste of energy and therefore your money (not to mention the space it will take up in your home!).
If you have one bathroom, a combi boiler is probably ideal. If you do have a larger property and more people requiring hot water at the same time, then you may benefit from a system boiler.

We highly recommend arranging an annual boiler service to ensure its continual optimal and safe performance. Our fully qualified engineers, registered with Gas Safe and OFTEC conduct comprehensive inspections during this yearly service. This process allows them to identify and address potential faults that could otherwise develop into prolonged issues.
Additionally, an annual service helps maintain the continued validity of any boiler guarantees or warranties you may currently have in place.
