Boiler Service Bracknell
Why is a boiler service important?
Keep your boiler working safely and efficiently
A Boiler service is a critical aspect of home maintenance that ensures the safety, efficiency, and longevity of your heating system. Perhaps the most crucial reason for boiler servicing is safety. A poorly maintained boiler can pose serious risks, including carbon monoxide leaks, which are both odourless and deadly.
During a boiler service, technicians can identify and address minor issues before they escalate into major problems. Over time, components of the boiler can become worn or dirty: regular servicing keeps components clean, lubricated, and in good condition - which helps to reduce wear and tear. This not only saves you money in the long run but also can ensure uninterrupted heating.
And finally, many boiler manufacturers require a regular service to maintain the validity of any guarantees or warranties. Neglecting to service your boiler as per manufacturer recommendations could void your guarantee, leaving you liable for repair or replacement costs!

What happens during a gas boiler service?
Depending on make, model and initial visual inspection, your boiler service could include:
We begin by visually inspecting the boiler and its surrounding components for any signs of damage, corrosion, or leaks.
We observe the boiler's initial operation, ensuring it ignites correctly and that the flame burns steadily.
The boiler casing is removed to access internal components such as the burner, heat exchanger, and flue system for signs of wear, corrosion, or blockages.
We analyse the combustion process to ensure the boiler is burning fuel efficiently and safely.
The composition of the flue gases is measured to check for the presence of carbon monoxide and other harmful by-products of combustion.
We clean and removes any debris or soot build-up from the burner, heat exchanger, and other internal components.
We conduct safety checks on critical components such as the gas valve, pressure relief valve, and safety controls.
The boiler's water pressure and flow rate are checked to ensure they meet manufacturer specifications.
What happens during an oil boiler service?
Depending on boiler make and model, your engineer would:
Conduct a dip test to detect if there is any water in the oil tank which can introduce debris into the boiler.
Perform a dip test of the oil line to identify impurities and ensure no water is present that is prone to freezing.
Check nozzles as clogged nozzle can hinder boiler performance. To prevent issues stemming from congealed oil in the future, nozzles are cleaned or replaced as required
Clean electrodes and photocells to remove soot accumulation which can cause erratic boiler operation or prevent ignition altogether.
Clean out the trap, significantly enhancing the year-round reliability of your boiler.

Boiler Service FAQs
We highly recommend arranging an annual boiler service to ensure its continual optimal and safe performance. Our fully qualified engineers, registered with Gas Safe and OFTEC conduct comprehensive inspections during this yearly service. This process allows them to identify and address potential faults that could otherwise develop into prolonged issues.
Additionally, an annual service helps maintain the continued validity of any boiler guarantees or warranties you may currently have in place.
When installed by a Worcester Bosch accredited installer (like us, here, at PDF Gas and Heating) a new Worcester Bosch gas boiler can have up to a 12 year guarantee (vs the standard guarantee starting from 5 years). And a new Worcester Bosch oil boiler can have up to a 7 year guarantee (vs the standard guarantee starting from 2 years).
However, an annual service completed by a certified engineer is required to maintain that guarantee. As Worcester Bosch accredited installers, we are expertly placed to complete your service and record it appropriately in your boiler's service record
You can find out more about Worcester Bosch guarantees here or alternatively contact us and we can talk you through it.
A boiler service takes around 30 to 40 minutes.

Depending on make, model and location of your boiler, this could include:
1. A visual Inspection
2. Firing it up
3. Casing Removal to inspect: the main injector, the burner, the spark probe, the heat exchanger, the pilot light, and any signs of corrosion damage or gas leakage
4. Flue check
5. Gas pressure check
6. Cleaning of the burner, the filter, the condensate trap
7. Any adjustments to optimise the continued performance of the boiler
8. Complete documentation: a service report explaining the work they have carried out, any issues, and recommendations for the future, complete the boiler manual
The specifics of the boiler service will vary slightly depending on the boiler model and fuel type. Our engineer will talk through any issues or details with you and show you any faults or problems.

Is the immediate area around your boiler clear for your engineer to easily inspect and check both the boiler and the pipework? Your engineer will need to be able to remove the boiler casing.
If you are confident in doing so, you can also switch off your boiler approximately 30 minutes before the start of your appointment. This will allow key components to cool down ahead of time.
