Why is a boiler service important?

We highly recommend arranging an annual boiler service to ensure its continual optimal and safe performance. Our fully qualified engineers, registered with Gas Safe and OFTEC conduct comprehensive inspections during this yearly service. This process allows them to identify and address potential faults that could otherwise develop into prolonged issues.

Additionally, an annual service helps maintain the continued validity of any boiler guarantees or warranties you may currently have in place.

When installed by a Worcester Bosch accredited installer (like us, here, at PDF Gas and Heating) a new Worcester Bosch gas boiler can have up to a 12 year guarantee (vs the standard guarantee starting from 5 years). And a new Worcester Bosch oil boiler can have up to a 7 year guarantee (vs the standard guarantee starting from 2 years).

However, an annual service completed by a certified engineer is required to maintain that guarantee. As Worcester Bosch accredited installers, we are expertly placed to complete your service and record it appropriately in your boiler's service record

A boiler service takes around 30 to 40 minutes.

Your engineer progresses through a series of safety checks and measures to make sure everything is working as it should be.

Depending on make, model and location of your boiler, this could include:
1. A visual Inspection
2. Firing it up
3. Casing Removal to inspect: the main injector, the burner, the spark probe, the heat exchanger, the pilot light, and any signs of corrosion damage or gas leakage
4. Flue check
5. Gas pressure check
6. Cleaning of the burner, the filter, the condensate trap
7. Any adjustments to optimise the continued performance of the boiler
8. Complete documentation: a service report explaining the work they have carried out, any issues, and recommendations for the future, complete the boiler manual

The specifics of the boiler service will vary slightly depending on the boiler model and fuel type. Our engineer will talk through any issues or details with you and show you any faults or problems.

An oil boiler service can take between 1 and 2 hours.

If your engineer discovers any faults or issues, they will show you the fault and explain the problem as well as the options available to fix it.

After training and assessment, a gas engineer is issued with a license showing they are qualified in matters of gas safety.

The Gas Safe Register also carry out inspections of all businesses on the register and investigates reports of illegal gas work.

There are some simple preparations you can do ahead of the visit from your PDF Gas and Heating engineer.

Is the immediate area around your boiler clear for your engineer to easily inspect and check both the boiler and the pipework? Your engineer will need to be able to remove the boiler casing.

If you are confident in doing so, you can also switch off your boiler approximately 30 minutes before the start of your appointment. This will allow key components to cool down ahead of time.
